Surviving and Thriving in Times of Uncertainty

At some point, most organizations will ask themselves the following key questions!

  • Where are we now and why?
  • Where do we want to be and by when?
  • How best will we get there?

SAS’ abilities to quickly assimilate and objectively analyse large quantities of information, drill down to root causes, discover cause and effect relationships and to use innovative tools and methodologies will help de-clutter critical information, answer the previous fundamental questions and assist you in setting new direction for sustainable business gains. The approach is based on two pillars namely (i) a Rapid Business Diagnostic (RBD), followed by (ii) Transition Execution Management (TEM).

Typical focus areas which may form part of this initiative may include the following building blocks:

  • Core Ideology [Vision, Mission, Brand Promise, Values];
  • Strategy Formulation, Strategic Thrusts and Goals;
  • Business Model Generation;
  • Value Proposition and Competitive Edge;
  • Business Process Transformation (Processes, Policies and Procedures);
  • Critical Strategic Capabilities;
  • People Philosophy;
  • Organisation Design;
  • Critical Performance Measures;
  • Organisational and Individual Performance Management;
  • Risk Analysis and Risk Management;
  • Current Strategic Initiatives;
  • Policy Formulation;

The RBD is split into two phases and address the following key aspects:

RBD Phase 1:

This is the early investigative phase and is aimed at gaining an overall initial impressions of the current health of the organisation. The following indicators highlight the typical thrusts of this phase:

  • Involvement of all C-Level and other selected stakeholders
  • Identifying key inhibitors to current and future success
  • Identifying immediate risks
  • Establishing immediate opportunties (LHF’s – low hanging fruits)
  • Deriving a high-level performance scorecard
  • Identifying further areas of investigation
  • Duration is typically 2-3 weeks elapsed time*
RBD Phase 2:

This is the ‘deep dive’ phase which is informed by the the earlier diagnosis. The following indicators highlight the typical thrusts of this phase:

  • Involvement of selected 2nd and 3rd tier internal stakeholders
  • Involvement of selected external stakeholders (if required)
  • Deeper, focused investigations informed by earlier diagnosis
  • Further analysis of complexities and dependencies e.g. processes and structures
  • Initiation of selected LHF interventions
  • Development and definition of the organisation’s Value Proposition
  • Development of typically 3-4 business case frameworks
  • Duration is typically 4-6 weeks elapsed time*

*(depending on size and complexity of organization)
